Bangalore, May 6:

Archbishop of Bangalore Dr Bernard Moras released the book, ''Echoes of Footprints,” penned by the seven children of Clarence Joseph Pereira, who brought them up single-handedly through hard work in the mines of Kolar Gold Fields after the death of his wife, at a glittering and nostalgic function at the Chowdaiah Memorial Hall in Bangalore and lauded the entire Pereira family for their rare gesture of upholding family values and becoming a role model for all other families about the love, caring and trust and the respect to their parents.
The seven Pereira siblings – Philip, Patricia, Eustace, Lucia, James, Veronica and Claudius -- have demonstrated that love and respect owed to parents cannot be measured and that one should never forget their roots or origin, the Archbishop said, those who remember and cherish their roots will have abundant blessings.
''Money or wealth does not take us anywhere. We come into this world with nothing and take nothing when we die. What we leave behind are our good deeds in this life. We must learn to love and respect our parents, elders and always cherish what they have given us because that alone will make our lives worthwhile,” he said.
Leading the entire august gathering, who included the cream of Christian community, including the relatives, friends, well-wishers and admirers of the Pereira family from Bangalore, Mangalore, Dubai, Singapore, London, US and many other places into according a standing ovation to the Pereira siblings and their progeny, the Archbishop said they have proved that God and Jesus Christ will be behind such heroic struggles and sacrifices and bless them with success and triumphs at every step despite the hurdles that might come in the way.
The entire book launch function was organized with elaborate and minute planning, starting with a video presentation of the heroic saga of Olympic runner Derek Redmond, who completed his race despite a hamstrung injury while running with the help of his father, with the famous song and captivating music, ''You Raise Me Up,” setting the tone for the struggles, sacrifices that Clarence Joseph Pereira underwent and the triumphs that his children achieved to keep their memory alive by publishing a book as a homage and permanent legacy.
''Never be scared to take risks in life. If you succeed, you have done something and can climb higher. But if you fail, don’t be afraid because you will become wiser and refrain from committing the same mistakes again,” was the lesson that our Dad taught us and helped us to come up in life, remarked Eustace Pereira, one of the sons, in his welcome address recalling the advice that was given to him by his father.
Another son, Philip Pereira, introduced the persons involved in the entire exercise of writing and publishing the book. Claudius Pereira, the author and the anchor behind the entire exercise right from the conceptual stage, writing, editing, printing and publishing and the final launch, said what was most important about the book was what any family and individual can give back to society and not the money or wealth amassed. Nigel Fernandes, the Managing Director of ATC Publications, explained the work behind the compilation of the book. Daughter of Veronica, Natalia Pereira from the US, Clarence Joseph Pereira’s grand-daughter, introduced the Archbishop. Patricia Pereira, another daughter of Clarence Joseph Pereira, proposed a vote of thanks.
